That's a philosophical issue of Aesthetics. What is the ontological status of beauty. Form a pragmatic point of view, any question should be considered metaphysical. Beauty is an evolved mental reaction. Even in different cultures or eras what is beautiful has different meaning.This is pretty trivial, but may want to listen tho this talk by Denett himself
